In 1867 the congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Faith was founded by Margaret Aylward to assist the poor of Dublin. The Sisters of the Holy Faith arrived to the U.S. in the 1950’s, a period when there was a need for schools as the suburbs grew. They were involved in education and staffing of elementary schools in various cities of Los Angeles County. In 2004 Sr. Vickey Haran and Sr. Barbara Gunning saw a need to expand the ministry of the Sisters of the Holy Faith by opening the Margaret Aylward Center in Pico Rivera. They, together with Associates’ help and God’s will, worked hard to transform an abandoned house into a place of spiritual guidance and social outreach. It was created to tend to the needs of the poor and marginalized. The goal is to work closely with other agencies and collaborate with them in analyzing issues faced by our community members and working to implement solutions.

OUR MISSION

In the service of faith, we proclaim by prayer, word, and action the love and truth of Jesus to and with the people of our day. Through Education, Social Services, and Human Development we strive to meet the needs of God’s struggling people. We offer ESL classes (English as a Second Language), citizenship preparation, how to avail of public benefits, individual, marriage and family counseling, skills for developing better Self-Esteem, dry food distribution, clothing, referrals to other Agencies including but not limited to shelters for the homeless and helping families find housing. All of our programs are sustained primarily by the Sisters of the Holy Faith, Holy Faith Associates, private donors, and a great number of volunteers.
